I've picked something cooler for this week's bet: ice hockey! :) The NHL season is well under way now, the teams should be past the early season unpredictable performances so I decided to try my first NHL bet of the season.
The game that I have chosen is Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks, mainly because it's the first clash of the season between these two teams who were fierce rivals last term. The Canucks had the better of it last season as they defeated the Blackhawks in the play-offs but now the tables seem to have turned. The Blackhawks are in command of the Western Conference as they lost just two games out of 13 until now while the Canucks are down in 11th place as they have already lost 7 games out of 14. So I'm backing the Blackhawks and looking forward to a great performance from Patrick Kane, who has 11 assists and 15 points on the season and has also reeled off two goals and seven points in his last three games.

This week is all about tennis for me as I've been closely following the BNP Paribas Masters tournament in Paris. I was preparing to bet on Djokovic to win the tournament but unfortunately my favorite was forced to retire due to yet another right shoulder problem. So I had to change the game plan and I decided to place a combo bet on the two semi finals: I'm backing Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to reach the final.

It was quite close and emotional but Tsonga clinched it in the end, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 against the American giant John Isner (he's 6 feet and 9 inches!).
Het was behoorlijk close en emotioneel, maar Tsonga won uiteindelijk de overwinning: 3-6, 7-6, 7-6 tegen de Amerikaanse reus John Isner (hij is 1,80 meter lang!).

The first match went well, Federer beat Tsonga. But it wasn't easy for the Swiss champion as Tsonga had claimed the second set. Final score: Federer vs Tsonga 6-2, 2-6, 6-4

As expected, this week's bet is all about tennis again. The ATP Masters Finals are taking place in London these days and I thought that the best choice would be to bet on the semi finals. I was expecting Djokovic and Nadal to be in the last four but that didn't happen as the world number 1 and 2 respectively were knocked out at the end of the group stage.
Roger Federer seems the man to beat at this point, he will win the tournament if you ask me. But I didn't bet on that, I placed a combo bet on both semi final matches. Here is the screen shot of the betting slip from Sports Interaction:
I'm pretty sure that Federer will beat Ferrer, like 99 percent sure, but Tsonga will have a tough match against Berdych. However, the Frenchman is in great shape at the moment and I believe that he will prevail.
Zoals verwacht staat de weddenschap deze week weer in het teken van tennis. De ATP Masters Finals vinden tegenwoordig plaats in Londen en ik dacht dat de beste keuze zou zijn om op de halve finales te wedden. Ik had verwacht dat Djokovic en Nadal bij de laatste vier zouden staan, maar dat gebeurde niet omdat respectievelijk de nummer 1 en 2 van de wereld aan het einde van de groepsfase werden uitgeschakeld.

Actually I fell asleep after the first set, Tsonga had won it 6-3. I was quite sure that he was going to win the match at that point and he did, the second set ended 7-5 and that means another winning bet for me! ;)
Eigenlijk viel ik na de eerste set in slaap, Tsonga had die met 6-3 gewonnen. Ik was er op dat moment vrij zeker van dat hij de wedstrijd zou winnen en dat deed hij ook. De tweede set eindigde op 7-5 en dat betekent weer een winnende weddenschap voor mij! ;)

There is just one choice for a bet today: the mighty "El Clasico", the biggest derby in the world of soccer - Real Madrid vs Barcelona. It's no secret that I'm a big Barcelona fan, I like their way of playing spectacular soccer and I admit that my love for them might have clouded my judgement when making this bet.
I bet that Barcelona will win tonight in Madrid but the voice of reason tells me it's a rather risky bet. What a game it was! Real Madrid got off to a flying start as they found the back of the net just 22 seconds into the game courtesy of a huge blunder from Barcelona goalie Victor Valdes but then Guardiola's men fought back and levelled the score before half time through new signing Alexis Sanchez who converted a beautiful assist from Lionel Messi. Then Barcelona upped the tempo after the interval and made it 2-1 with a lucky goal before Cesc Fabregas wrapped things up by scoring the third goal. It was a beautiful end-to-end game with both sides playing really well but Barcelona is better, they are just too good!
Here's a joke I heard before the game:
"Cristiano Ronaldo says: God sent me on earth to play soccer.
Lionel Messi replies: That's not true, I haven't sent anybody!" :)

Real Madrid kende een vliegende start toen ze na 22 seconden in de wedstrijd de achterkant van het net vonden dankzij een enorme blunder van Barcelona-doelman Victor Valdes, maar toen vochten de mannen van Guardiola terug en brachten de score vóór rust gelijk door nieuwe aanwinst Alexis Sanchez die een prachtige assist van Lionel Messi omzet. Vervolgens voerde Barcelona het tempo na de pauze op en maakte er met een gelukkig doelpunt 2-1 van, voordat Cesc Fabregas de zaken afrondde door het derde doelpunt te scoren. Het was een prachtige end-to-end wedstrijd waarbij beide partijen heel goed speelden, maar Barcelona is beter, ze zijn gewoon te goed!
Hier is een grap die ik vóór de wedstrijd hoorde:
"Cristiano Ronaldo zegt: God heeft mij op aarde gestuurd om te voetballen.
Lionel Messi antwoordt: Dat is niet waar, ik heb niemand gestuurd!" :)

It's time for another bet and although reason told me to avoid betting on my favourite English soccer team my heart pushed me to do that... Yes, I placed a bet on Manchester City vs Arsenal, the most exciting match of the Premier League weekend. And, being an Arsenal fan, I put my hopes into this bet so my money went on a good result for Arsenal. No, not a win, because I can't really believe that the Gunners would win today. It's not a draw either, too risky. I went for a double chance bet, which means that I win if the game ends in a draw or if Arsenal win.

It's time for the last bet of the year and since it's such a special occasion I decided to bet on the competition I liked the most this year: the English soccer Premier League. There will be a few games that will be played today and tomorrow but I chose just three for a combination bet, I decided to back Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea to win their home games and give their fans a nice New Year's night.
