Wedbedrijf GlobalStars moet een boete van 100.000 euro betalen, omdat het geen vergunning heeft voor online gokken.

Het is de eerste keer dat de Nederlandse Kansspelautoriteit een boete uitdeelt.
GlobalStars zit op Curaçao, maar richt zich op Nederlandse online gebruikers die bijvoorbeeld bingo, roulette of een loterij spelen.
Online gokken is illegaal in Nederland. Op dit moment werkt de overheid aan een wet die online gokken toestaat maar ook reguleert (reguleert met de KSA). Tot die tijd is het aanbieden van gokspellen op internet in ons land verboden.

De boete van de Kansspelautoriteit is een duidelijk signaal naar bedrijven en consumenten. Afgelopen zomer waarschuwde de waakhond talloze bedrijven dat ze moesten stoppen met het aanbieden van internetgokken.
