The UK government has just launched a review and call to action on the Gambling Act 2005!
The aim of the far-reaching and comprehensive review is to:
- Ensure that theĀ UKĀ regulatory framework is still concurrent with the original goals of the Act
- Fit for the internet age
- Effective in terms of customer protection - namely children and vulnerable groups
The Government is particularly interested to hear from consumers themselves and that means YOU, the player!
This is a great opportunity for players to make a difference, take part in the review and have their say on the current state of affairs in the country's gambling industry.
Many are of the opinion that the current gambling laws are far too restrictive and infringe on the right and freedom to gamble (read more HERE and HERE). The UK government's strict laws proposed and/or enforced in 2020 are the aftermath of a series of scandals in the sector, involving money laundering, unlawful and aggressive advertising, predatory practices and other illegal activities. Whether reasonable or not, the laws are now subject to review.Ā
The Call for Evidence will close at midnight on Wednesday 31st March 2021.Ā
